The 2019 Great Lake Taupo Business Awards have been officially launched at a BA5 event at Plateau Bar & Eatery, hosted by leading engineering, surveying and planning firm, Cheal.
Over 130 people from the local business community attended, keen to learn more about the awards and how they can participate.
The Great Lake Taupo Business Awards are presented by the Taupo Business Chamber, with support from Towncentre Taupo. All businesses in the wider Taupo region, including Turangi, Mangakino and Whakamaru are encouraged to enter.
Catie Noble, chair of the Taupo Business Chamber Board, says the aim of the Great Lake Taupo Business Awards is to encourage and support businesses in their quest for sustainable growth, development and excellence.
“It’s important to celebrate the efforts of the business community that ensure the vibrancy and vitality of our region.
“Entrants will notice we’ve changed things up a bit this year, for the better, but our core mission remains the same — we want to help all businesses in the district to grow, excel and celebrate their achievements,” says Catie.
The judging process has been developed to deliver a robust, fair and transparent system. Entries will be independently assessed by the Business Management Faculty of Toi-Ohomai Institute of Technology, with finalists being mystery shopped and visited by a panel of expert judges.
This year sees more support for those seeking guidance with their entry; individual mentoring opportunities will be offered, alongside free workshops focused on coaching entrants to find their business strengths, and how to structure an award-winning entry to stand out from the crowd.
Catie encourages everyone to enter, but says she especially wants to increase participation from businesses that haven’t taken part in the awards process before.
“The free workshops kick off this week and we would encourage anyone considering entering to attend. They provide valuable information on how best to answer the questions and what the judges are looking for!
In the spirit of keeping the Awards as accessible as possible, entry is completely free. Entries open Monday 6 May.
