Meet the Judges Behind Stage 2 of the 2025 Unison Great Lake Taupō Business Awards

Over the past two weeks, four incredible judges have given their time, expertise, and energy to visit 33 outstanding businesses across seven categories as part of Stage 2 judging. These in-person interviews are where the magic really happens – it’s where our judges get to dig deeper, ask questions, and truly understand the stories behind the entries. Their mission? To determine who will take home the top honours at this year’s Gala Awards Night on 8 August.

We’re thrilled to introduce our 2025 Stage 2 judging panel – a group of highly experienced and passionate professionals from across Aotearoa:

Kellie Hamlett – Rotorua

A proud Rotorua local, Kellie brings nearly 30 years of business and recruitment experience to the panel. As Director of Talent ID Recruitment Ltd, she’s a specialist in senior executive recruitment and employment relations. Kellie’s deep connections to the Bay of Plenty and her passion for community are evident through her involvement in Chamber boards, business awards, and local fundraising initiatives. With a strong background in local government, communications, and HR consulting, she’s a true advocate for building great teams and great businesses.

Jarred Sewell – Wellington

Jarred is a proven business builder, entrepreneur, and product strategist. He co-founded Hatch, helping 175,000 Kiwis invest with confidence, and led it through a $40 million acquisition. He’s also helped transform cricket worldwide through tech, and is now with Wellington startup Projectworks, helping scale their next success story. Jarred brings a sharp eye for strategy, innovation, and customer experience – and we’re lucky to have him on board.

Tony Laskey – Auckland

Originally from a family of retailers in Gisborne, Tony’s career has taken him across the globe in travel, tourism, and education. He spent over a decade leading Contiki NZ and their Asia office, and now serves as Executive Director at ServiceIQ, which supports industry training across sectors including hospitality, retail, tourism, and aviation. Tony’s career reflects a lifelong passion for customer service, learning, and helping others grow – something he brings generously to the judging panel.

Will Peart – Waikato

With over 25 years in brand, marketing, and strategic leadership across Australasia and the UK, Will leads Bettle–Associates, Waikato’s top marketing agency. He’s a master at helping businesses unlock clarity and deliver impact through smart strategy and creative thinking. Will’s strength lies in connecting business outcomes with people, culture, and real-world problem-solving – making him an invaluable part of this year’s panel.

These judges have generously dedicated their time to helping us shine a light on the incredible mahi happening across the Taupō District. We’re so grateful for their insights, integrity, and support.

Now, the countdown begins… see you at the Gala!
